Bees Knees are really in danger....Yikes.

Colonies of Bees are disappearing and they don't know why. It could be mites, global warming, or wasps...maybe they're just fed up? Its a problem for all of us, not just the beekeepers. If your interested in keeping bees check with your local authorities on your zoning. Here are some great publications you can subscribe to that will help with your keeping of the bees.

Intelligent Folks ahead. TED 2008 Awesome.

TED is amazing. I love smart! Give me smart ideas, smart people, smart design. I love smart.

"It's important to leave the security of who we are, and go to the place of who we are becoming. I encourage you to let yourself out of any prison you might find yourself in. Because we have to do something now. We have to change now." - Environmental advocate John Francis (below), who went 17 years without speaking."

Quote from, Ted2008: Days 3 and 4 Quotes on their blog.

I can spend hours watching all the great talks on their site. Thanks BMW.

I'm even considering having my own Pangaea Day Party! LOL, any reason to party.

Oh, yeah one more thing. Climate Change, the Earth will correct itself. Here's the deal. The temperature rises in turn water evaporates. Evaporated water becomes clouds. Clouds shade the Earth. Ahhhhh, its cooler. Temperature Drops. Global Warming Problem Solved. Side Effect of Clouds and Dropping temperatures - Storms, many storms, so you've got flooding and and blizzards. Enjoy.

Las Vegas, NV - Ham Radio Goodness.

Last stop on our way out of sunny Las Vegas, Nevada was Amateur Electronic Supply. It wasn't too far from the strip so how could I say, "No, way Jose!" Well I couldn't and so my dear hubby got his very first Ham Radio! He took his test and earned his license, and has just been waiting until we could find a radio he liked!

Julio (KP4UZ) and Art (K7ZE) were very helpful. Julio also speaks 4 languages. That's always impressive. If you need help in German, Spanish, English or French he's your man.

Art is a member of the Morse Code Preservation Society. I didn't know there was such a thing.
Anyway, they're at 4640 S. Polaris, Las Vegas, NV 1-800-634-6227 or http://www.aesham.com/

The Business of Being Born. Fascinating.

A little Shout out for Ricky Lake and Abby Epstein. After reading Freakonomics I occasionally wonder if things are really being done in the best interest of the consumer. I wonder if dentists are doing root canals because they're profitable - or because their patient needs it. Or if doctors are doing things in their best interest or the interest of the bottom line. Ricky and Abby did a great job in sharing the research they discovered in their documentary, The Business of Being Born.

I think they did an excellent job. They talk to expectant mothers, midwives, doctors, nurses and learn about politics in hospitals. They bring out the statistics and the numbers are compelling and alarming. It really comes down to being educated about your choices. Sometimes we don't even know that we have choices. Check it out, they've done a good bulk of the research for you. Its a great place to start to learn about what choices you really do have in regards to child birth.

You can watch it online at Netflix or just get yourself a copy. Amazon.com is great. (Just a little FYI - you watch women give birth and there is footage of a c-section - its a little graphic and there is a little nudity - don't be shocked)

Carla is a Kindred Spirit. Anne Shirley would be so proud. Bahahahaha.

I've known Carla forever, well not forever, but we go way back. When we get together we just laugh and laugh...and laugh. We went to lunch on leap day and had fun up at The Point in Salt Lake City, at the U medical center. It has an amazing view but it was so smoggy that day you couldn't see anything but grey gunk. I got a new lens so I made her pose for me, twisted her arm and everything. :)

Don't Point its Rude.

Except Pointing is one of the things that separates us from the Apes. Pointing brings attention to a third party or object. Its part of communication. Its part of teaching and learning. I've really been thinking about the idea of learning lately, and it was fascinating to find out that one of the things that helps us through the human experience is pointing. Through the simple act of pointing we share ideas. Then we build upon the ideas of those before us.

I'm also pondering the idea of cyclical subjects. Fashion is cyclical - like the reemergence of vintage aprons. I wonder if it has something to do with Grandmothers and paying homage to a grandmother? Something from a picture and then recreated or something stolen from your mother. Because their own mother didn't wear an apron. Grandma's made cookies from scratch and mom's came from a tube. I hate making cookies. lol. I don't mind making the batter, but cooking them...grrrrrr. I like set it and forget it, not babysit for 8-12 minutes. Then do it again.

Also a little shout out to Rocky Mountain Institute for their tag line, "Abundance by Design."

U2 Sundance 3D I think Scary Movies just got Scarier.

At Sundance U2 (yes, U2 with Bono) showcased a new 3d technology. Ooooooooo. Aaaaaahhhhh. Its Stereograph fine tuned. Saweet. 3ality Digital LLC of Burbank, California put some hard work and some smarty pants ingenuity to work. You have to wear some glasses still, but its not the red and green ones. They are focusing on high-quality 3d content and from their web page they are working on everything from cell phones to IMax projects. I didn't see the U2 3D, I was just so excited I had to let ya all know!

On a side note, looks like Blue-ray is taking the lead in the hd-dvd Blue-ray battle. Warner Home Video switched to Blue-ray. Looks like downloading content could give Blue-ray a run for its money. What does that have anything to do with anything? Do you own some HD Dvds? Or say CDs with photos on 'em? Technology is on the move again and the market will help decide what happens. Enjoy.
